Keeping up with the blog has become harder than I originally thought!
The students are back now and have just about completed a month in their third term. Last week, we took them on field trips to Mbale, Jinja, and Kampala. For many of them, it was their first trip to these places. The bus ride, the smiles, and the laughter was so refreshing! The school comes to life when these students come back and to see them outside the school is even better!
We are starting to prepare for the end of the reading challenge. On the last day, the students will have a reading carnival. The teachers and I are starting to plan this event now.
For the past month, a great friend from high school stayed at the guest house with me and worked at the nearby hospital. Iris and I met when she came over from Germany to the US for a semester abroad. I was a senior in high school at this time. We became friends, but had lost contact after she went back to Germany. She is studying medicine in Germany and wanted to spend her break in Africa working at a hospital. Iris found out that I was in Uganda, contacted me, and came over. So now seven years later, we have been able to reunite! She has done great work in the community, and we have decided that I will have to go to Germany to see her before seven years have passed again!

my 83rd birthday and I just put
down the phone to the lovely voice
of your mom singing "Happy Birthday" to me!! All 4 of our children had celebrated last Sunday
at Heidi's so I'm very lucky!!!
I'd looked & looked before today.
THANK YOU! Well written and so welcome!!! Much love, Opa & Oma
